I came across a great quote this morning about success and happiness. It's a good one to keep in mind as you go about your day.
"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
~Herman Cain

A Poem For A Mother
Mother's Day is tomorrow, so I felt it would be nice to include a couple of touching poems for mothers. Remember to call your mom and tell her how much she means to you. It can mean a lot to her just to hear your voice.
Sonnets Are Full of Love
by Christina Rossetti
Sonnets are full of love, and this my tome
Has many sonnets: so here now shall be
One sonnet more, a love sonnet, from me
To her whose heart is my heart’s quiet home,
To my first Love, my Mother, on whose knee
I learnt love-lore that is not troublesome;
Whose service is my special dignity,
And she my loadstar while I go and come
And so because you love me, and because
I love you, Mother, I have woven a wreath
Of rhymes wherewith to crown your honored name:
In you not fourscore years can dim the flame
Of love, whose blessed glow transcends the laws
Of time and change and mortal life and death.

Thoughts About Friends
Friends are an important part of our lives. Good, true friends are there for us... as we are there for them. They help us through the tough times and are there for the good times too. Here are a few thoughtful quotes about friends. Enjoy!
"Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the
friends we choose."
- Tennessee Williams
"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"A friend is a second self."
- Aristotle
"One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives."
- Euripides
"A real friend is someone who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."
- Walter Winchell
I also remember this episode from Fraggle Rock where Boober and Red got trapped in a tunnel. They sing about the importance of being friends. Here's the video for the "Friendship Song".

Video on Gratitude Quotations
Well, I started this blog and then neglected it for several weeks. I do have a good excuse though. I've been working on completely redesigning my site InspirationalWordsofWisdom.com - it's got new colors, new layout and much easier navigation.
Also, I was working on putting together a video featuring gratitude quotes. Showing appreciation to others is something we all need to do more often. Hopefully, this video will be a reminder for all of us to do just that.
You can check out more of these gratitude quotations by clicking here.
Here's he video that I made. Enjoy!

Dance
Dance as though no one is watching you,
Love as though you have never been hurt before,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth.

Live as though heaven is on earth.

Quotes About Being Grateful
It's the first day of spring! What a wonderful time to be alive. The sun is shining, it's going to be a beautiful warm day (and that IS something for me to grateful for... I live in Canada!) My husband suggested going for a nice walk (rare for him), which I am looking forward to. These are all things I'm thankful for in my life today.
Taking the time to acknowledge and be grateful for all of the things that you currently have can change a person's mood almost instantly. Truly it can. I've used it many times before when I've been feeling down or anxious about something.
And I find that reading quotes about being grateful can definitely give you a quick boost too.
It's hard to be depressed, worried or frustrated when you're consciously searching for things to be grateful for.
Try this exercise for five minutes. Sit down in a comfortable chair and look around you. Then say "I am so grateful for (fill in the blank)." More importantly... FEEL grateful for it. Let the emotion well up inside of you as you target each item.
You can choose a variety of things to be grateful for, such as people you know, objects you own, past and current situations that have been a positive experience, things that you look forward too, pets that you own, funny instances that have taken place, etc.
After you have done this for a minimum of 5 minutes (longer is preferable), check back on how you now feel inside.
Chances are you'll experience a lighter, more buoyant energy and your problems won't look quite so dismal. When you get into this uplifting state, you're also better able to search for positive solutions to your current problems. Try it, it really can help.
On that note, here are some quotes about being grateful that I find are quite motivating. Think of these gratitude quotes throughout your day if you find yourself spiraling downward because of everyday pressures. (And repeat the above exercise for an instant lift!)
"If the only prayer you ever say in your life is "thank you," it will be enough."
~ Meister Eckehart (13th Century German Mystic)
"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a gift and not giving it."
~William A. Ward
"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love."
~Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus (Roman Emperor)
"True forgiveness is saying with gratitude: Thank you for giving me that experience so that I could learn from it."
~ Dr. Michael Beckwith
"If a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's gong to get."
~Frank A. Clark
"Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy -- because we will always want to have something else or something more."
~Brother David Steindl-Rast
"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful."
~Buddha
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."
~Marcel Proust
"God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used on to say "thank you?"
~William A. Ward
I hope you find some deep meaning in these quotes about being grateful. Another good exercise to practice writing down the things that have happened throughout your day that you are truly thankful. Many people have found this 3 to 5 minute exercise life changing when consistently practiced each day. Give it a shot... the only thing you have to lose is pessimism, depression, anger, and frustration... and that wouldn't be so bad would it?
